E-Gaming Staff Tournament Specialist

E-Gaming Staff Tournament Specialist
Multiple positions open within the E-Gaming Staff! The place for all of your 24 hour video gaming needs!

Our department is looking for novice or experienced tournament staff to be a part of the 24 hour E-Gaming section of FanimeCon. In this role, you will be helping to put on a great show for both attendees and staff alike. As a part of E-Gaming, you may be called upon to help with tournaments, greeting attendees, or just checking to make sure everyone feels welcome, and better yet, having fun.

E-Gaming Tournament Specialist Desired Skills:
* Experience in online bracketing software such as Challenge and Smash.gg.
* Prior experience with video game tournaments and events, primarily fighting games.
* Open Availability for both console and PC games, E-Gaming is a 24 hour department and will need lots of help!
* Prior Customer Service experience.
* Experience working with versatile, agile, dynamic teams in an exciting environment.

General Duties:
* Interact and delight attendees as one of the public faces of FanimeCon.
* Conduct area patrols around the E-Gaming stations and monitor for unusual activities.
* Assist attendees with signing up for tournaments, track tournament results, and reporting to the Event/Tournament Organizer.
* Equipment management and documentation.
* Carefully setting up E-Gaming, and tearing down equipment.
* Line control on major events during tournament sign-ups & check-in.
* Access control around stations during events upon request.

General Requirements
* Be customer service oriented, we want to help craft memorable experiences for our staff and attendees.
* Be on time for shifts and complete assigned tasks.
* Be at least 18 years old: some of our shifts are very late at night.
* Be able to maintain a positive attitude and ask others for help when needed

Info Desk staff

What is Info Desk? Who are they, and what do they do?

Info Desk is one of the most visible public faces of FanimeCon. We greet the public with a friendly face and the answer to their questions both through stationary desks and walking teams located throughout the convention. When you don't know, go ask Info!!

Info Desk Staff Requirements :

Must be 18 years old by the time FanimeCon starts. (exceptions may be made on a case by case basis)

Must have valid government issued photo ID. ie drivers licence, passport, state id card, military id card, etc....
Must work 24 hours over the course of Fanime weekend Th-M divided up into 6(six) 4(four) hour shifts.

Must complete Radio Training.

Must complete Customer Service Training.

Must attend at least 2(two) pre-con meeting

Must be familiar with Fanime and Clockwork Alchemy websites prior to the start of the con.

Must check in with Programing Ops and Manager On Duty 15 minutes before each shift.

Must check in with Programing Ops and Manager On Duty after each shift.

Must abide by the FanimeCon Member Code of Conduct and the FanimeCon Staff Code of Conduct at all times.

Info Desk Responsibilities

Before Con, Info Desk staff members are responsible for acquiring information as it becomes available concerning Programing, Extravaganzas, and Fan Service.  Throughout the months leading up to Con, Info Desk staff continue to become well versed on all programming, events, and schedule changes in order to share this information with staff and attendees.

During Con, Info Desk staff members distribute information about events, event locations, any changes, and other pertinent information. They understand the rhythm and flow of what information attendees ask for on a given day and are prepared with responses for related questions (for example, Cosplay is big on Saturday, so Info Staff should be prepared for questions related to cosplay). Info Staff members keep in constant contact with Programming Ops, distribute information about all changes that come from Prog Ops, and communicate any alarming trends to either Prog Ops or Con Ops as it pertains to scheduling. Info Desk is also responsible for distributing the daily con newsletter to attendees.

Gaming Broadcast Quality Assurance Staff

The Gaming Stage is the FanimeCon Gaming Hall’s primary exhibition showcase for demonstrating the top attendee talent! Located in Exhibit Hall 3, the Gaming Stage displays competitive talent potentially including (but not limited to): League of Legends, Overwatch, and Smash Ultimate. Not only does it showcase competitive talent, but offers recreational gameplay that anybody can participate in with popular local games such as Towerfall: Ascension, The Jackbox Party Packs, and Overcooked!

The Gaming Broadcast Quality Assurance Staff role puts you in front of the scenes to ensure all is going well. You take feedback from various avenues (spectator feedback, commentor feedback via Twitch, and etc.) and pass this through to the Gaming Stage Broadcast Ops team so they can make the appropriate adjustments. While the Gaming Broadcast Quality Assurance Staff team is responsible for moderating the Twitch chat, you will also be responsible for keeping digital brackets current and making overlay changes in between matches so that they are ready for immediate deployment. Lastly, you are a spectator-facing team member and will be responsible for fielding questions and comments from at-con attendees and at-home observers which will occasionally require expediting these requests or comments to an appropriate entity if you are unable to respond to these yourself. This role will require 24 hours of service to the department over the course of the weekend (Thursday through Monday) to be scheduled with your department head based on needs and availability.

+ Desired Skills:

- Any experience with image manipulations programs such as Photoshop, GIMP, etc.
- Any experience with Windows operating systems.
- Customer service and/or digital moderation experience.
- Any experience with streaming programs (OBS, Xsplit, etc.)
- Any experience with online bracketing systems such as Challonge, Bracket Ninja, etc.
- Approachable and friendly personality.

Gaming Stage Broadcast Ops

The Gaming Stage is the FanimeCon Gaming Hall’s primary exhibition showcase for demonstrating the top attendee talent! The Gaming Stage Broadcast Ops role puts you behind the scenes and in-control of overlay implementations for spectator-facing content and in the hands of the spectator camera to catch all of the action! If you’re passionate about games, your expertise is needed to make sure everything will be properly represented for the commentary team and spectators at-con and at-home! This includes the aforementioned as well as ensuring appropriate audio levels are being presented via our mixing sound board and the appropriate display is actively displayed to our audiences. This role will require 24 hours of service to the department over the course of the weekend (Thursday through Monday) to be scheduled with your department head based on needs and availability.

+ Desired Skills:

- Average game knowledge of the following (games are subject to change, either in removal or addition):
- - League of Legends
- - Overwatch
- - Rainbow 6: Siege
- Knowledge of how to use the spectator tools in the aforementioned games.
- Ability to determine appropriate observation targets for gameplay quickly (and in quick succession in case of explosive action).
- Any experience with audio/visual technology (microphones, mixing sound board, HDMI splitter, etc.)
- Any experience with streaming programs (OBS, Xsplit, etc.)
- Experience in working with teams, ability to communicate between other production members and commentators concisely and quickly.

Gaming Stage Hosts & Commentators

The Hosts & Commentators role presents you as the face (and voice) of some of these events. If you are passionate and knowledgeable about games, your expertise is wanted to help communicate some of the in-depth strategies, overall meta knowledge, and statistical analysis to observers both at home and at home through our broadcasted efforts! This role will require 24 hours of service to the department head over the course of the weekend (Thursday through Monday) to be scheduled with your department based on needs and availability.

+ Desired Skills - Commentators:

- Commentators are responsible for relaying play-by-play or analytical information to our spectators -- they need to be quick thinking and concise with their wording while possessing above-average game knowledge.

- Above average knowledge of the following games (games are subject to change, either in removal or addition):
- - League of Legends
- - Overwatch
- - Rainbow 6: Siege
- Ability to process information quickly and relay that to spectators concisely.
- Clear and confident speaking ability (public speaking skills).
- Ability to practice your commentary remotely with other commentators in your respective game (pre-conventional practice).


+ Desired Skills - Host(ess)s:

- While Hosts (or Hostesses) are not as prominent as commentators, their personality and approachability is important as they will be conducting player interviews and minimal coverage about events occurring in the games played. Hosts (or Hostesses) serve a spectator-facing role and represent the Gaming Stage in communications. They’re responsible for interacting with the crowd for both recreational games and competitive games.

Broadcast Producer

Are you interested in being on the ground floor of an all new department at FanimeCon? Are you a passionate individual when it comes to audio and visual mediums? Are you experienced in audio recording, livestreaming, or video production? Looking for an opportunity to apply your talents to something special?

FanimeCon’s Broadcast department is looking for staff experienced in audio and video production. You will work closely with the Broadcast department leadership to develop entertaining and informative content for fans. This is an exciting opportunity to help build something new in FanimeCon.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in setting up and taking down Broadcast projects
• Work with Assistant Department Manager to combine visions of the department with stakeholders’ passion
• Must meet deadlines established by Department Managers
Requirements:
• Familiarity with Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut or other equivalent video editing software
• Familiarity with Apple operating systems
• Understanding of which file types to best present content as well as an understanding of limitations of presentation mediums
Things we are excited about:
• Experience working with a mixing sound board
• Familiarity with microphone placement, polarity, and operation
• Familiarity with encoding, frame rates
• Familiarity with platform optimization i.e. YouTube, Twitch etc.

Availability:
All Broadcast staff are expected to work 24 hours during the convention weekend in addition to pre-con prep work. As a producer, you will be assigned to time blocks. These time blocks will consist of setting up equipment, gathering content, taking down equipment. Processing of content will occur during the evening.

Japanese Interpreter (1 position)

The Guest Relations division is recruiting 2-3 professional and sociable staffers to work in the role of a Japanese interpreter - directly interpreting for a Japanese guest of honor (GoH) and guiding them around FanimeCon.

DUTIES:
+ Greet assigned GoH upon their arrival to and departure from con
+ Guide GoH around con according to their personal schedule
+ Interpret for GoH in public events (panels/Opening Ceremonies/media interviews) and coordinate/run these events when necessary
+ Work as at-con liaison between GoH and Guest Relations head team.
+ Attend daily morning staff meetings during con.
+ Perform other necessary tasks within the Guest Relations division when requested.

REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must have advanced level of fluency in Japanese (JLPT N2 or N1 certification)
+ Must be comfortable with public speaking
+ Must be 18 years old.
+ Must work AT LEAST a total of 24 hours over the 4-day event (Friday – Monday).
+ Must be punctual, professional, and organized.
+ Must be a cooperative team player.
+ Must be able to adjust to a constantly changing environment.

General Staff

Do you enjoy working in a fast pace environment? Want to have Saturday/Sunday at the con? Then Print might be the department for you! The Print Department is responsible for producing and distributing all printed materials for the convention and departments. We're a small department that's always looking to improve. We work in conjunction with the Signage and Publication departments to ensure that the other departments get what they need to function and advertise.

As a general staffer you will be responsible for:
- Assisting veteran/returning staffers with Print production
- Delivery of Print and Publication media
- Assisting with the check-out and check-in system for Publication equipment
- Assisting preparation of Print and Publication equipment materials during the lead up time to the convention
- Assisting other Publication departments with additional manpower

Note: Print media and equipment is heavy. Please note that you may be asked to carry items with significant weight, which may be over 50 pounds for team lifts.

Availability:
Our staffing workload is heavily impacted on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday of convention weekend. Saturday and Sunday are lighter workload days. This allows you to schedule most of your time before/after most of the major events of the convention. We require the standard 24 hour commitment spread over the convention weekend.

Green Room Staff (2-3 positions)

Green Room Staff

The Guest Relations division is recruiting 2-3 sociable staffers to work in the Green Room, a rest and relaxation space for domestic and Japanese Guests of Honor (GoHs).

DUTIES:
+ Present hospitable Green Room environment to GoHs including: maintaining cleanliness of room; keeping snacks/drinks stocked; engaging with GoHs when necessary
+ Attend daily staff meetings during con
+ Aid handlers/interpreters with Panels' check-in
+ Performing other necessary tasks within the Guest Relations division when requested.

REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must be 18 years old.
+ Must work a total of 24 hours over the 4-day event (Friday – Monday).
+ Must be punctual and professional.
+ Must be a cooperative team player.
+ Must be able to adjust to a constantly changing environment and work independently as needed.

PREFERENCES:
+ Available to work (some) late evenings.
+ Able to do light-to-medium lifting (mostly food items)
+ Conversational Japanese skills
+ Hospitality experience (e.g. at another convention, at school, at work, etc.)
+ Open and helpful attitude!

Panels Staff

The Panels Department is searching for energetic, hard-working individuals interested in facilitating exceptional, entertaining experiences for FanimeCon attendees and panelists by ensuring scheduled panels and events proceed with minimal disruption.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must attend two training meetings
- Must work a total of 24 scheduled hours across the 4 days of the convention

Department Hours of Operations:
Friday: 2:00 PM – 1:00 AM
Saturday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 AM
Sunday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 AM
Monday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Responsibilities:
- Managing lines for admittance into the panel rooms
- Checking badges and IDs at panel room doors
- Providing assistance to panelists before and during their panel
- Monitoring panels for disruptions and notifying appropriate staff if they occur
- Taking attendance counts during panels
- Greeting and checking-in panelists at the panelist lounge
- Running errands for department heads and leads
- Ensuring updated information is distributed to FanimeCon attendees

Publications is looking for staffers with experience in writing and editing to work on editing content for the program guide and website, as well as creating content for an at-con blog.

Duties:
• Editing content for the FanimeCon program guide and website.
• Creating written content for a blog published during the convention.
• Working with the Editorial Board to make sure all published work meets FanimeCon's editorial standards.
• Assisting Publications department staff with additional tasks as needed.

Requirements:
• Must be 18 or older.
• Experience (professional or personal) writing or editing content for publication.
• Keen eye for detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Must work minimum of 24 at con hours.

Preferences:
• Journalism, English, Creative Writing, Communications/Marketing background preferred.
• Previous experience writing and editing text for publication.
• Familiarity with AP Style or Chicago Manual of Style.

Chronicler

Publications is looking for an observant, detailed, and organized individual to be a Chronicler. The goal of the Chronicler is to provide a detailed timeline of when things happen in the Publications office during the convention in order to help us make improvements year to year.

Responsibilities:
- Record details on incidents, issues, or activities as they occur, logging the time
- Monitor production lines, noting start and finish times for various major projects
- Follow Publications Head to take any additional notes on issues as they happen
- Produce a timeline of events during the course of Publications' production after the convention weekend

Requirements:
- Staff during Wednesday, Thursday, and Monday of convention weekend. These are the peak hours which require a Chronicler on hand
- Attend General Staff Meetings
- Plans on returning for the 2020 year so improvements can be implemented

Broadcast General Staff

Are you interested in being on the ground floor of an all new department at FanimeCon? Have previous experience working with audio and visual mediums or looking to gain some?

FanimeCon’s Broadcast department is looking for general staff. You will work closely under the leadership of Broadcast Department Managers to bring exciting content to life. This is an exciting opportunity to help build something new in FanimeCon.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in setting up and taking down Broadcast projects
• Work under the direction of the Department Managers
Things we are excited about:
• Previous experience working with audio and visual mediums
• Previous experience with set design

Availability:
All Broadcast staff are expected to work 24 hours during the convention weekend. As general staff, you will be expected to go through department training sessions before the convention weekend begins.

Dealers Dept Staff

Ever wonder how we keep our Dealers Room running? Want to know what it takes to be the "modern day traveling salesman"? Now's your chance to get your feet wet in event management!

What we do:
-Dealer exhibitor check in.
-Cater to our Dealers' logistical needs during the show.
-Help with communications between our union decorator & Dealers.
-Manning & assist w/ daily tasks at our Dealer Ops Info booth.
-PA announcements. (If you're not mic-shy and you like to hear the sound of your own voice...lol)
-Bootleg spotting. (Help keep our Dealers honest!)
-Occasional crowd/line control.

Second of Operations

Publications is looking for a 2nd of operations. The 2nd provides support in managing the operations of all departments under Publication's jurisdiction. The 2nd will also be in charge of projects such as the Program Guide and the Pocket Guide.

Requirements:
- Must be able to work 24+ hours during Fanime weekend.
- Prior staff/project management skills preferred.
- Familiarity with Slack and Trello preferred

Roles/Responsibilities:
- Communicate with various Publications departments and troubleshoot issues
- Plan and manage inventory and procurement needs
- Coordinate purchasing and delivery of Program Guides and Pocket Guides
- Debug issues inside the department

Art Gallery Staff

Art Gallery staff are needed during Fanime, to engage guests and monitor the collection. This is an opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Fanime with Art Gallery visitors!
Staff will need to:
-Greet guests
-Answer questions about the gallery
-Ensure the collection is kept safe
-Clean up the space as needed
-Lend a hand with anything that comes up
Schedule:
-Staff one shift every day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday
-Morning or afternoon shift as assigned
Staff will have fun and be enthusiastic with visitors, celebrating 25 years of Fanime with art, memorabilia, and activities!
