Volunteers Department Staff

The Volunteers Department is looking for motivated, customer-service oriented individuals to join our team! Whether you’re a seasoned con-goer, previous volunteer, or new to staffing, this is your chance to help make a difference behind the scenes. The Volunteers Department supports the convention by assigning attendee volunteers to tasks requested by various departments.

Responsibilities:
- Welcome and register new volunteers
- Converse with volunteers to find suitable tasks
- Assign tasks to volunteers through our database
- Validate reimbursement requirements
- Initiate reimbursement requests for volunteers who qualify
- Grant prizes to volunteers who qualify
- Maintain a tidy workspace
- Follow instructions and announcements from the leadership team

Requirements:
- Attend the department’s virtual training (pre-con) and in-person training on Day 0 (at-con)
- 24 hours of scheduled staffing at con, starting from Day 0, Thursday to Day 4, Monday
- Use email and Discord for communication before and during the convention
- Learn to/use our Volunteers Department Database to register volunteers, assign tasks, and initiate reimbursements

Preferences:
- Be comfortable in a front/attendee facing role
- Can learn/know the locations and general purpose of various departments to answer volunteers’ questions
- Can learn/know the convention’s general programming to recommend tasks in a timely manner
- Be able to do scheduled patrols around the convention to check on volunteers

No prior convention staffing experience is required, all we ask is that you bring a positive attitude and are open to working with a variety of individuals. Laptops will be provided for use during the convention. Schedules will be done in shifts and we do our best to accommodate each staff’s personal availability. Cosplay is permitted while staffing as long as it does not interfere with your responsibilities.
